Mapplewell & Staincross Village Hall is a charity-run community venue on Darton Lane in Mapplewell, S75 6AL, on the outskirts of Barnsley towards Wakefield. It's a busy building - around 100,000 visitors a year come through for the council-run library, the nursery, the cafe and the weekly activities, and six small businesses rent offices on site, which is what keeps the hall hire prices down. There are 40 free parking spaces.
The main hall
The main hall measures 20m x 8.8m with an arched roof 4m to 5m high, seats 200 theatre-style or 150 cabaret, and has a traditional wooden floor, a dedicated stage with a sound and lighting system built in after a £200,000 National Lottery Community Fund refurbishment, and a separate licensed bar area. Load-in is through the fire doors, and there's a break-out room that works as a catering area or green room.
The other rooms
The intermediate hall is 5.8m x 13.2m with a 3m ceiling, seats 80 theatre-style or 60 cabaret, and goes out from £20 an hour on weekdays and £24 at weekends. There are two conference rooms as well, which suit meetings and smaller gatherings.
What we set up in the main hall
That high arched ceiling is what makes the hall - most village halls top out around 3m, and the extra headroom means our disco domes, bouncy castles and bouncy castle and slide combos all fit with room to spare. For children's parties there are soft play sets for the little ones, and a prize crane or Whack a Mole keeps older children busy. The break-out room takes fun food stations like the candy floss machine and popcorn, keeping the main hall clear for the entertainment.
Weddings and evening dos
The licensed bar, the stage and the 200-seat capacity make the hall a straightforward venue for weddings, anniversaries and milestone birthdays. We supply photo booths - the Magic Selfie Mirror prints each photo in around ten seconds - plus rodeo bulls and arcade games for the evening.

Booking and practicalities
We've delivered Christmas party bookings at the hall ourselves, so we know the load-in and the layout. Every hire includes delivery, setup and collection, and we email the hall a risk assessment and insurance certificate before the event. We carry £5 million public liability insurance, own 95% of our kit in-house, and have been going since 1999 with a 5/5 Google rating from more than 200 reviews. Our warehouse is in Rotherham, about 30 minutes away, and we're out across Barnsley, Wakefield, Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster every week, with nationwide delivery for the bigger bookings.
