Can Inflatables Be Used in Hot Weather?
When the sun comes out, so do the bouncy castles! Warm, sunny days are perfect for garden parties, school events and community celebrations, but one question we're often asked is:
"Is it safe to use a bouncy castle in hot weather?"
The simple answer is yes – as long as the correct safety precautions are followed.

Hot Weather and Inflatable Safety
Inflatables are manufactured from durable PVC vinyl, which can absorb heat when exposed to direct sunlight. On particularly hot days, the surface can become uncomfortable to touch and, in extreme cases, hot enough to cause burns.
That's why we never simply inflate a castle and leave it. Our team provides customers with clear guidance on how to use the equipment safely throughout the day.
What We Recommend
If you're hiring an inflatable during warm weather, here are a few simple steps to keep everyone comfortable and safe.
Check the Surface
Before children start playing, place the back of your hand on the bouncing surface and slide. If it feels too hot for you, it's too hot for little feet and hands.
It's a good idea to repeat this check throughout the day, especially during periods of strong sunshine.
Keep Play Sessions Short
Children can become hot very quickly while bouncing.
We recommend limiting play sessions to around 15 minutes, followed by a break in the shade with plenty of water before returning for another turn.
Not only does this reduce the risk of overheating, but it also helps keep everyone refreshed and enjoying the inflatable for longer.
Stay Hydrated
Bouncing is surprisingly energetic! Always have plenty of drinking water available and encourage children to take regular drinks, even if they don't say they're thirsty.
If anyone starts to feel dizzy, unusually tired or unwell, stop play immediately and allow them to cool down in the shade.
Wear Suitable Clothing
Lightweight clothing is ideal during hot weather.
Where appropriate, wearing socks can also make the surface more comfortable and help reduce friction on warm vinyl. We also recommend applying a high-factor sunscreen before outdoor events.
Provide Shade Where Possible
If there's a naturally shaded area in your garden or venue, that's usually the best place for the inflatable.
Many of our inflatables also include fitted sun and shower covers, helping to provide additional protection from direct sunlight while children are playing. A gazebo or shaded seating area is also a great idea for children waiting their turn and for supervising adults.
We Monitor the Equipment Too
As experienced inflatable operators, we know that warmer weather can affect the pressure inside an inflatable.
Our equipment is always set up correctly using the appropriate blower, and we advise customers to contact us if they have any concerns during their hire. We would much rather answer a question than have someone worry about whether something is normal.
Can You Pour Water Over a Bouncy Castle?
This is another question we're regularly asked.
Unless the inflatable has been specifically designed as a water slide or water play inflatable, the answer is no.
Adding water to a standard inflatable can make the surface extremely slippery, increase the risk of accidents and may damage equipment that has not been designed for wet use.
