Spider Mountain is a 9m (30ft) scramble-net climbing tower with a freefall drop slide at the summit, and it is the highest-throughput climbing activity in our fleet: up to 16 people on the structure at once and around 225 climbers an hour through it. It's the piece of kit we reach for when an event needs a centrepiece that keeps a queue moving all day, and here's what hiring one involves.
What you get
The tower stands 15m long by 20m wide on the ground and 9m high at the top. Climbers work their way up through crisscrossed elastic levels, picking their own route - some scramble straight up, some explore sideways for a while, and the elastic gives just enough to make it feel like an adventure without any climbing experience needed. At the summit there's the drop slide for the ride back down, which is the part the under-tens talk about on the way home. Because it's a scramble net, children as young as three and adults can be on it at the same time, which solves the perennial fun-day problem of the grown-ups standing around watching.
How the hire works
You have two options, and full details are on the Spider Mountain hire page. Option one is the tower with the drop slide, from £895 + VAT for a three-hour hire, fully staffed. Option two adds a two-person auto belay climbing wall set against the tower, from £1,295 + VAT, so two climbers can rope up while everyone else scrambles. Extra hours are £75 an hour, and we do discounted rates for multi-day bookings and Scout camps. Every hire includes the trained supervising crew for the booked period, self-contained power (no mains supply needed on site), setup and pack-down in around 30 minutes, public liability cover to £5m with indemnity to principal, and the risk assessment and method statement with you before you commit, not on the morning.
What your site needs
Being straight about the practicalities. The unit needs a flat area roughly 15m x 20m of grass or hard standing, and flat trailer access to get it in - a field reached only through a narrow gate with a slope won't work, and we'll ask about access before we quote rather than discovering it on the morning. Because it towers at 9m, check for overhead cables and tree canopies over your proposed spot. It runs its own power, so there's no generator sitting next to it and no cable runs across the grass, but it is a big physical presence; if your event is indoors or in a tight courtyard, our 26ft mobile climbing wall or the inflatable climbing wall is the better fit, and you can see all the options in our climbing walls range.
Where it gets booked
At roughly 225 climbers an hour, Spider Mountain gets a big queue through quickly - at a school fun day with 400 children, one unit can give almost everyone a go inside a normal afternoon. It suits school rewards days, Scout and Guide camps, county shows and community festivals, and it pairs well with bungee trampolines, assault courses or fun food stalls if you're building a full day - our school fun days range covers most of the combinations.
