Crazy Caterpillars team race
Four people climb inside each caterpillar and race as one creature. The costume is a 25ft loop, so the team has to find a rhythm together: step too quick and the caterpillar bunches up, drift out of time and the other teams are already past you. The game dates from the It's a Knockout television era of the 1960s and it still raises the biggest laughs on the field, largely because the teams waiting for their next heat get a proper view of the ones racing.
You get a set of four blue caterpillars, so four teams of up to four can race head to head at once. That makes it a good fit for corporate fun days, school sports days, Scout camps and It's a Knockout programmes. We supplied the caterpillars as part of a sixteen-activity camp weekend for Doncaster Scouts, alongside the rodeo bull, laser quest and a 120ft assault course.
Hire comes unstaffed as standard, or we can add a DB team member to run the heats, keep the scores and referee the finishes. The caterpillars pair well with Giant Skis and giant sack racing, and you can build a fuller programme from our It's a Knockout range.

Hire details
- Price: from £49 including VAT (£40.83 excluding VAT). Overnight hire is available for an extra £25.
- Equipment: a set of four blue caterpillar costumes, each a 25ft loop for up to four players.
- Players: up to 16 at once in four teams of four, suitable for children and adults.
- Staff: unstaffed as standard; we can add a trained team member to run and supervise the races.
- Surface: outdoors on grass only. Not suitable indoors, or on concrete, hard standing, mixed surfaces or wood chip.
- Space: a flat grass run with room for four caterpillars side by side, plus space for teams waiting their heat.
- Delivery: nationwide delivery in our own vehicles, with minimum spends depending on your postcode.
- Documents: risk assessments and insurance certificates can be sent to your venue, school or council before the event.
