16 March 2021 - School Activity Day - At your School

A school activity day is a set of activities - climbing walls, laser quest, assault courses, Segways - brought onto your own school field and run by a professional crew, so pupils get a full rewards-day or end-of-term experience without a coach trip. DB Entertainment delivers the kit and the staff from Rotherham, works with schools across Sheffield, Doncaster, Barnsley and nationwide, and prices for individual activities start from around £499 plus VAT.

What fits on a school field

Most school fields take more than people expect. The Mobile Climbing Wall is 26ft tall on a trailer, with four routes at four difficulty levels and an auto belay system, so a first-timer and a confident climber both get a worthwhile climb. It needs a flat area with vehicle access and about the footprint of a large van plus safety zone. The Infinity Tower and Mega Drop slide is a 9-metre climb-through tower with a drop slide from the top. Laser quest runs in a 12m x 12m inflatable arena that goes pitch black inside, which works on grass or on a hall floor. The Segway Experience Hire rides on the off-road X2 model and needs a coned course on reasonable ground, which our instructor lays out.

How many pupils get a turn

Throughput is the number that decides whether a rewards day works. The climbing wall handles four climbers at once, around 60 an hour. The Infinity Tower is the highest-throughput climbing attraction in our fleet at roughly 225 climbers an hour, with up to 16 on the structure at a time. Each Segway machine handles about 20 riders an hour, so two or three machines cover 40 to 60 an hour. For a whole-year-group event, schools typically book two or three headline activities alongside the Bungee Run and similar side games, so queues stay short. A typical mix for a 200-pupil day is a climbing wall, laser quest and two side games.

What we bring with us

Every booking includes delivery in our own vehicles, full setup and pack-down, and trained DB staff who run the activities for the whole day. The risk assessment and method statements go out to you and the venue ahead of the day, so the bursar and the educational visits coordinator have their paperwork well before the morning, not on it. Every hire is insured to £5m with indemnity to principal while our staff are running the activities. Around 95% of the kit is ours, stored and maintained in-house, so if something needs sorting on the day there's no third-party supplier to chase.

What schools tell us afterwards

After a school rewards event, one customer left us a review that read, “Excellent company for a school rewards event. We will use again.” We've also run the games side of school careers events for Specsavers, where their early careers manager noted the team were “efficient, friendly and very helpful”. The same crewing standards apply whether it's a rewards day, a leavers' party or a summer fair - see the School Fun Days and School Rewards Day pages for the formats schools book most.

Worth checking before you book

Three things decide the plan. First, access: the climbing wall arrives on a trailer, so a gate, path or field entrance it can get through matters more than the field size. Second, ground: most of the big inflatables peg into grass, so tell us if your field is out of bounds or freshly reseeded, because hard-standing alternatives exist but change what fits. Third, headcount and hours: a two-hour session suits one year group, a full day covers the whole school, and the price reflects that. If a request won't work on your site, we'll say so on the phone before you commit to it.

Want a quote built around your field, your pupil numbers and your timings? The delivery page explains how the day works, and a ring to 0114 345 0135 gets the office putting numbers together around it.
