Barrow Hill Roundhouse is on Campbell Drive at Barrow Hill, Chesterfield, S43 2PR, just off the A61 between Chesterfield and Staveley. It's the last surviving operational railway roundhouse in the UK - a locomotive shed built around a working turntable, with over 150 years of railway history and a Google rating of 4.7 from more than 1,200 reviews.
The building and grounds
Alongside the roundhouse there's the DRIIVe railway innovation centre, exhibition space, a cafe and bar, and outdoor yards with room for marquees, trade stands and demonstrations. The site takes exclusive bookings for events, meetings, training days, team building and TV or film work, with on-site catering available and parking for up to 200 cars. The roundhouse floor is solid and level and the yards are tarmac and concrete, so it's an easy delivery either way, with the commercial entrance kept separate from the public one. One honest note from visitors: some of the yard surfaces are gravel, so the wheelchair or pram route is worth planning before the day.
What we've delivered here
We supplied eight 1x1m Intelistage decks for an event at the roundhouse - modular staging that goes together quickly on a hard floor and takes a PA stack or a band without fuss. The Rail Ale Festival, gala weekends and train running days are the big dates in the calendar, and family days have the yards for bouncy castles and bouncy slides. The exhibition space takes soft play for younger visitors, quiz nights and socials suit the interactive game range, and a package usually beats booking the pieces one at a time. Every hire carries our £5 million public liability insurance, delivery, setup and collection, and risk assessments and method statements for the site if the organisers need them.
Eight 1x1m Intelistage decks, ready to be laid out flat on the roundhouse floor.
Giant Connect 4 - a yard game that needs nothing but the concrete.
Disco Dome - lights and music for the evening socials in the exhibition space.
