The Runaway Train is one of those funfair rides people spot across the field and head towards before they've quite decided to go on it. A track-based family coaster, it runs a chain of open carriages around a looping track with gentle rises and dips, themed frontboard lit with bulbs and finished off with the star lettering spelling out the name. It's a great family fun ride, suitable for all ages, and the sort of thing that pulls a queue for the whole afternoon.
It's a fixture at corporate family fun days, council-run community events, school rewards days and Christmas switch-ons. Children want to climb straight back on, and the carriages are roomy enough that parents and grandparents can ride alongside them, which is exactly what the "ALL THE FAMILY CAN ENJOY" sign on the barriers promises. We've set it up on grass fields, tarmac car parks and town-centre hardstanding right across Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley and Worksop, with regular runs out to Chesterfield, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham and London too.
It's a real mechanical ride, not a sub-hired inflatable, so it comes with its own transport, our own trained operator for the duration of your event, and full risk assessment and method statements your venue or council will want to see beforehand. We've been running fairground rides for over 25 years from our 25,000 sq ft Rotherham warehouse, we carry £5 million public liability insurance as standard, and 95% of our kit is owned and maintained in-house - the Runaway Train included.

Footprint and access
The Runaway Train is a full mechanical funfair ride and needs a substantial, level pitch. It works on grass, tarmac, concrete or a hardstanding/grass mix, both indoors on artificial grass or hard flooring and outdoors. Tell us your venue, postcode and the surface you have, and we'll confirm whether the footprint fits and whether the access route works for the towing vehicle and trailer.
Pricing
Hire starts from £1,800, subject to VAT at 20%. A minimum spend may apply depending on your event location and date. Christmas switch-ons and the peak summer fun-day season book up first - Christmas in particular fills by October, so the earlier you enquire the better.
